When
this class first started back in August, one of my first assignements
was to choose a topic for my MRP. This was a bit challenging at
first because there were so many directions that I could have gone in
with choosing the topic. I have leared about so many interesting
disorders in my Communication Disorders classes that it was hard to
narrow it down to one topic. The first thing I did was thought
about what interests me the most. The word "children"
automatically came to mind. I initially wanted to choose
apraxia, but I had already completed a project on this disorder so I
decided to choose one that I did not know much about. I then
immediately thought of autism. I have learned a little bit about
autism in previous classes, but nothing too in-depth. I decided
that it would be interesting to learn more about this disorder and its
effects on children.
After choosing my topic, the
next step came of determining what my
essential question would be. My initial question was a bit
broad. I was basically going to try and talk about all of the
pragmatic skills of children with autism in general. After
talking with my professor, Mrs. McComas, I discovered that this would
have been an
overwhelming task to complete. She helped me narrow my question
down to one aspect of pragmatic skills. I was also able to zone
in on one age group of children and one specific group on the autism
spectrum. I can only hope that this site not only provides
you with basic facts about autism, but also gives you more insight into
the emotional
aspects of the disorder.
