Kim's Webliography

Personal Interests

I am from Oak Hill, WV which is big on outdoors.  When I am at home, I enjoy being outside and exploring the many nature trails that lead to the New and Gauley Rivers.  Here you can search for trails in the area.  If you get a chance you should check them out.  Another thing that I love to do when I am at home, is go rafting.  I have been down the Lower New River twice, the Lower Gauley twice, and the Upper Gauley once.  I always make sure to go with a professional rafting company because the river is very dangerous.  I recommend Rivermen Whitewater.  They provide a variety of outdoor activities, as well as lodging and meal packages.

While I love my hometown, my favorite place to be in the summer is the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.  It is a group of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina.  My favorite is Ocracoke.  This site provides historical information, as well as activities in the area.

When I have free time, which is rare, I enjoy reading.  My two favorite authors are Nicholas Sparks and Richard Paul Evans.  These are their official websites.  You can find the titles of the books that they have written, as well as information on their next project.

Fun Sites

If there was one website that I could not live without it would be Yahoo.  I constantly use Yahoo to search for information, check my e-mail, and listen to music.  I always have music playing at my house and I like to listen to a variety of different types of music.  That is why I love Yahoo's Launch cast because you can customize your own station.  You rate songs and then it recommends other songs that you may like.  I also like to use Yahoo to play games.  This is a great site when you are putting off your homework.

Another site that I use a lot is The Weather Channel.  This site allows you to look up information on the weather anywhere in the world.  It can help when planning trips or everyday activities.

Although I am not a superstitious person, I enjoy reading my horoscope to see what the stars have to say about my day.

Professional Links

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) provides information for professionals, students, and the public about audiology, speech-language pathology, and speech, language, and hearing science fields.  If you are interested on more information involving communication disorders, this is a site you definitely want to visit.  This site also includes the Code of Ethics, if you are or hope to be involved in the professional world of communication disorders you need to read this.

Sometimes as a student it is hard to stay up to date on what is going on in the professional world.  That is why it is important to join the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA).  When you join, you will begin receiving newsletters and journals that will help keep you knowledgeable about what is going on.

I attend Marshall University, so this site is very important to me.  If you are interested in attending Marshall University, you can find what they have to offer.  The communication disorders department can provide information to current and prospective students.

Research Resources

There are a lot of web sites that provide information on Broca's Aphasia.  Here are a few that are very reliable.

The National Aphasia Association is a non-profit organization that aims to educate people about aphasia.  They provide an online information packet that has a lot of valuable information on all types of aphasia.  They also sell "The Aphasia Handbook: A Guide for Stroke and Brain Injury Survivors and Their Families" which may be helpful.

The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders is part of the National Institutes of Health.  They provide funding for and perform research in the areas of hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, and language.  You can use this site to find information about aphasia by clicking on the Voice, Speech, and Language link under Health Topics.  Then you select Aphasia.

The National Aphasia Institute provides information, training, research and outreach.  This site also provides information on the programs that are available through the National Aphasia Institute.

The Aphasia Hope Foundation provides a variety of information about aphasia.  It provides  information on treatment, support groups, books, videos, research, and much more.  This site is nice because it provides tips from different perspectives, such as the person with aphasia, a spouse, and a speech-language therapist.
