Renewing Our Faith
                              Ephesians 4:17-24
Introduction

I. O Lord, renew our spirits and draw our hearts unto thyself, that our work may not be to
us a burden, but a delight; and give us such a mighty love to thee as may sweeten all our
    obedience. -- Benjamin Jenks.

    A. Renew is an interesting word.

        1. AHD: 1. To make new or as if new again; restore. 2. To take up again; resume. 3. To
            repeat so as to reaffirm.

II. As we being this new year, I want us to reflect on several truths we have believe for
    years.

III. I want us to view this sermon as an opportunity to renew our faith.

    A. For some it will be an opportunity to "make new again" their faith.

(2 Cor 4:16 NKJV) Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is
perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

    B. For others it will be an opportunity to "take up again" their faith.

(Heb 6:6 NKJV) if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify
again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

    C. For many it will be an opportunity to "reaffirm" their faith.

(2 Tim 1:12 NKJV) For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not
ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep
what I have committed to Him until that Day.

IV. Renewing our faith involves "our faith" and "the faith." (Rom 10:17; Ax 8:7).

    A. Some say: "If we don't stand for something, we will fall for anything."

    B. I say: "If we don't stand for the faith, we will fall!"

V. Let us renew our faith by remembering:

Discussion

I. GOD IS THE OBJECT OF OUR FAITH.

    A. God is our Father (Mk 11:22; Mat 6:9; Heb 11:6; Jn 14:1).

    B. Jesus is Lord (Jn 8:32; Mat 7:21; Mat 28:18).

    C. The Holy Spirit is our Helper (through the written word).

        1. Leads (Rom 8:14).

        2. Encourages (Rom 8:15-16).

        3. Intercedes (Rom 8:26).

II. THE BIBLE IS THE STANDARD OF OUR FAITH.

    A. It is inspired (2 Tim 3:16-17; 2 Pet 1:21).

    B. It is inerrant (Psa 19:7 complete, sound, undefiled).

    C. It is indestructible (Mat 24:35; 1 Pet 1:24-25; Jn 12:48).

III. SALVATION IS THE RESULT OF OUR FAITH.

    A. Salvation is by grace (Eph 2:8-10).

    B. Salvation is by obedience (Heb 5:8-9; Rom 6:17-18).

    C. Salvation is by death (1 Cor 15:1-3; Rom 6:3-4).

IV. TRUE WORSHIP IS THE EXPRESSION OF OUR FAITH.

    A. We worship God (Jn 4:23-24).

    B. We worship in spirit.

(Rom 2:28-29 NKJV) For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that
which is outward in the flesh; {29} but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is
that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.

    C. We worship is truth (Mat 15:8-9).

V. WORK IS THE DEMONSTRATION OF OUR FAITH.

    A. Being workers is expected (Titus 2:11-14).

    B. Being workers is Christlike (Ax 10:38).

    C. Being workers is rewarding (Heb 6:10; Rev 14:13).

VI. THE CHURCH IS THE PILLAR AND GROUND OF OUR FAITH (1 TIM. 3:15).

    A. The church is Christ's (Ax 20:28; Eph. 1:22-23).

    B. The church is one (Mat 16:16-18; Eph 4:4-6).

    C. The church is Christians.

(1 Cor 12:12-13 NKJV) For as the body is one and has many members, but all the
members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. {13} For by one
        Spirit we were all baptized into one body; whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free;
and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

VII. CHRISTIAN LIVING IS THE OUTCOME OF OUR FAITH.

    A. We are to live spiritual lives (Rom 12:1-2).

    B. We are to live moral lives (1 Jn 2:15-17).

    C. We are to live influential lives (Mat 5:16).

VIII. LOVE IS THE MANIFESTATION OF OUR FAITH.

    A. We love God (1 Jn 4:19).

    B. We love Christians.

(1 John 3:23-24 NKJV) And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the
        name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. {24}
Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we
know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

    C. We love sinners (1 Jn 5:16; Mat 5:44).

(1 Cor 13:13 NKJV) And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of
        these is love.

Conclusion

I. I hope we all have determined to walk away with a renewed faith.

            A. The Christian life begins, continues, and ends in faith.
