Obey the Gospel, TODAY!
                             2 Corinthians 6:1-2
Introduction
I. Song: Tomorrow May Be Too Late
Today is the day of salvation, Tomorrow may be too late
The judgement day, brother, is coming
    Prepare ye for that day,
His pardon and mercy He offers
    Obey while yet you may,
He'll save you from sin and bring sweet peace within
    Tomorrow may be too late.
II. Isn't it interesting, we'll obey doctors, carpenters, mechanics, but we won't obey Jesus?
III. The Bible teaches that we must obey the gospel to be saved (Jesus & Good News).
    A. The gospel was preached to Abraham.
(Gal 3:8 NKJV) And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith,
preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, "In you all the nations shall be
        blessed."
    B. The gospel was preached by Jesus.
(Mark 1:15 NKJV) and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the gospel."
    C. The gospel must be preached today (Mark 16:15-16).
(Acts 14:21 NKJV) And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many
disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,
(Rom 1:15-16 NKJV) So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you
who are in Rome also. {16} For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the
power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the
        Greek.
(2 Th 2:14 NKJV) to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of
        our Lord Jesus Christ.
        1. Yet, hearing alone is not enough, we must obey.
Discussion
I. THE GOSPEL MUST BE OBEYED BY ALL ACCOUNTABLE PEOPLE (ACTS 17:30-31).
(Rom 10:15-16 NKJV) And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How
beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good
things!" {16} But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed
    our report?"
    (2 Th 1:7-9 NKJV)
(1 Pet 4:17 NKJV) For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it
begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
    A. The gospel saves (Rom 1:16; 1 Cor 15:1-4).
    B. The gospel includes:
        1. Hear.
(Acts 15:7 NKJV) And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said
to them: "Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us,
that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.
        2. Believe.
(2 Cor 4:4 NKJV) whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe,
lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should
            shine on them.
        3. Repent (Luke 13:3).
        4. Confess (Mat 10:32).
        5. Baptized (Mark 16:16).
II. THE GOSPEL MUST BE OBEYED OUT OF LOVE (JOHN 14:15, 21, 23-24; 1 JOHN 5:3).
(Mat 22:37 NKJV) Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart,
with all your soul, and with all your mind.' {38} "This is the first and great commandment.
(2 Cor 5:14 NKJV) For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died
    for all, then all died;
III. THE GOSPEL MUST BE OBEYED FROM THE HEART (ROM 6:17-18; ACTS 2:37-38; 8:37).
(Rom 10:9-10 KJV) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. {10} For with the
heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
IV. THE GOSPEL MUST BE OBEYED WHILE TRUSTING GOD TO SAVE (ACTS 4:12).
    A. We must not trust in our works.
(Rom 3:27-28 NKJV) Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No,
but by the law of faith. {28} Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart
from the deeds of the law.
    B. We must not trust in our righteousness.
(Isa 64:6 NKJV) But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like
filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
    C. We must not trust in ourselves (Prov 16:25).
(Isa 55:8-9 NKJV) "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,"
says the LORD. {9} "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher
than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
    D. We must trust in God.
(Col 2:12-13 NKJV) buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him
through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. {13} And you, being
dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together
with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,
V. THE GOSPEL MUST BE OBEYED AND THEN LIVED.
(Gal 2:14 NKJV) But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the
gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and
not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews?
(1 Pet 4:6 NKJV) For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that
they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
(John 5:24 NKJV) "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in
Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed
        from death into life.
Conclusion
I. Do you see the importance of obeying the gospel?
II. Song:
Today is the day of salvation, Tomorrow may be too late
There's danger and death in delaying
    Accept God's saving Grace;
His life on the cross He has given
Oh come while yet you may,
He's earnestly pleading, Oh make no delay
        Tomorrow may be too late.
