What Would Paul Preach?
Romans
Introduction
I. Most people today have been to a concert.
A. They sing the same song.
II. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hear the Apostle Paul?
A. The Christians at Rome had not been privileged to hear Paul preach.
1. The Book of Romans is different for the other epistles.
B. But in the Book of Romans, Paul is preaching what he would have preached.
III. Paul is going to preach the gospel (Rom 1:16).
A. The gospel deals with God's scheme of redemption.
1. Sin [expresses the need of redemption] (5:12; 3:10, 23).
2. Seed [the promise seed is the solution] (1:3; 4:13-14).
3. Statutes [the law was the vehicle] (5:20-21; 10:1-4).
4. Savior [the Christ of redemption] (3:23-24; 10:9-10).
B. The gospel is for all--"4-all."
1. All are guilty of sin [universal sin] (3:23).
2. All need a Savior [universal need] (5:10).
3. All are saved by Jesus' death [universal death] (5:8).
4. All are one body in Christ [universal unity] (12:4-5).
IV. What would Paul preach in "Your Home Town"?
(1 Cor 2:2 KJV) For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
(1 Cor 4:17 NKJV) For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.
Discussion
I. PAUL WOULD PREACH SALVATION (ROMANS 10:1-2).
A. Hear (Rom 10:16-17; cf. Jn 6:45).
B. Believe (Rom 10:13-15; 3:21-23).
1. Obedient faith (1:5; 5:1; cf. Jn 8:24).
C. Repent (Rom 1:28-32; 2:4; cf. Luke 13:3; Ax 17:30-31).
D. Confess (Rom 10:9-10; cf. Mt. 10:32).
(Mark 14:61-62 NKJV) But He kept silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, "Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" {62} Jesus said, "I am. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."
(1 Tim 6:12 NKJV) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
E. Be Baptized (Rom 6:17, 3-4; cf. Mk 16:16).
II. PAUL WOULD PREACH ADORATION.
A. God is to be worshiped (Rom 1:18-25).
1. He is the invisible God.
2. He has the eternal power.
3. He has a divine nature.
4. He is the incorruptible God.
5. He is the Creator.
B. God is to be served in His church (Rom 12:3-5).
III. PAUL WOULD PREACH TRANSFORMATION.
A. Our relationship to GOD must change (Rom 12:1-3).
1. I give God my body.
2. I give God my mind.
3. I give God my will.
B. Our relationship to OTHERS must change (Rom 12:9-16).
C. Our relationship to OUR ENEMIES must change (Rom 12:17-21).
D. Our relationship to THE STATE must change (Rom 13:1).
E. Our relationship to OTHER CHRISTIANS must change.
1. We are to receive one another (Rom 14:1).
2. We must edify one another (Rom 14:19).
3. We must please one another (Rom 15:1-2).
Conclusion
I. If the Apostle Paul were here, he would preach what we have been preaching for years.
A. Become a Christian, worship God faithfully, & live the Christian life.
