II. In 2 Tim - Paul is the "Dead Man Walking."
A. Paul was a walking dead man in 2 ways.
1. In Rome.
2. In Christ (Gal 2:20; Rom 6:3-4).
III. I want Paul's death to become my life.
A. The way that Paul died; I want to live.
IV. In 2 Tim 4, we see what was important to Paul.
Discussion
I. SERVING GOD (1-5).
A. Serious matter (1).
1. We will be judged (2 Cor 5:10).
2. Kingdom - eternal kingdom.
(2 Pet 1:11 NKJV) for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
(1 Cor 15:24-26 NKJV) Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. {25} For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. {26} The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
B. Stern charge (2) (Mk 16:16; Gal 1:6-8).
C. Sad news (3-4).
1. They will not endure sound doctrine (healthy).
2. They follow their own desires.
3. They have itching ears.
4. They heap up for themselves teachers.
5. They turn their ears away from the truth (dislocate).
6. They turn aside to fables (myths).
D. Solemn responsibility (5).
1. Be watchful (sober).
(Ezek 3:17 NKJV) "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me:
2. Endure affliction (hardship) (2 Tim 2:3).
3. Do the work of an evangelist.
4. Fulfill your ministry.
II. BEING PREPARED (6-8).
A. Reality.
1. Death is a sacrifice (Roman drink offering).
2. Death is a departure.
B. Ready (Olympic games).
1. Fought the good fight (1 Tim 6:12).
2. Finished the course (1 Cor 9:24-27).
3. Kept the faith (kept solemn oath (1 Tim 4:1).
C. Reward.
1. Crown of righteousness (Stephenus, Laurel wreath).
2. Righteous Judge - Jesus.
III. CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP (9-12).
A. Sadness (9-10).
1. Demas has forsaken me.
(Col 4:14 NKJV) Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you.
(Phile 1:24 NKJV) as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow laborers.
B. Gladness (11).
C. Loneliness (12).
IV. BIBLE STUDY (13).
A. Bring the parchments (2 Tim 2:15).
V. FORGIVENESS (14-16).
A. Vengeance belongs to the Lord (14) (Rom 12:17-19).
B. Forgiveness belongs to us (16) (Mat 23:34; Ax 7:59-60).
VI. DELIVERANCE (17-18).
A. The Lord will stand with us.
(Heb 13:5-6 NKJV) Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." {6} So we may boldly say: "The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"
B. The Lord will deliver us.
(Psa 18:2-3 NKJV) The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. {3} I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.
(Rom 11:26 NKJV) And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
Conclusion
