What About Jesus? Introduction I. Jesus is the most significant person in the Bible. A. All the Messianic prophesies point to Jesus. 1. Gen 3:15 - Seed of woman. 2. Gen 49:10 - Shiloh. 3. Deut 18:18 - Lawgiving Prophet. 4. Isa 7:14 - Virgin born. 5. Psa 110 - Priest - King - Judge. B. All the Messianic types & structures point to Jesus. 1. Temple (Jn 1:14; Jn 2:18-22). 2. Sacrificial system (Jn 1 - Lamb of God). 3. Mercy seat. (Rom 3:25) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation [mercy seat-ACC] through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 4. Law [Torah] (Heb 8:6). 5. King & kingdom (Rev 19:16). 6. Rest (Mat 11:28ff; Heb 4:9). (Jn 4:29) Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? (Acts 3:24) Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. (Rom 10:4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. (Gal 3:24) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. II. Jesus should be the most important, the most significant person in our lives. A. He wants to be our everything (Eph 1:10). B. Our lives should revolve around Jesus, BUT DO THEY? Body I. WHERE IS JESUS IN YOUR LIFE? *** The Wise Men from the East are looking for Jesus *** (Mat 2:1-2) Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, {2} Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. A. Is He the controller? (2 Cor 5:14-15). B. Is He living in you? (Gal 2:20). C. Is He formed in you? (Gal 4:19). D. Is He dwelling in your heart? (Eph 3:16-17). E. Is He in your speech? (1 Cor 2:1-2). F. Is He in your mind? (Phil 2:5). G. Is He your reward? (Phil 3:7). H. Is He your strength? (Phil 4:13). I. Is He your God? (Col 2:9; Jn 14:8-9, 20:28). J. Is He your Savior? (Mat 1:21). II. WHAT DO YOU SEE IN JESUS? *** The Greeks have come to see Jesus *** (John 12:20-21) And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: {21} The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. A. Will you see His love? (Jn 3:16). 1. He was born for you; He lived for you; He died for you. B. Will you see His wrath? (Jn 2:13-17). C. Will you see His deity? (Jn 10:30). 1. You can see his deity in His birth, teaching, life, miracles, death (John 20:30-31). D. Will you see His humanity? (Jn 11:35). 1. You can see his humanity in His birth, hunger, sleep, hugs, tears. E. Will you see His patience? (Mt 19:16-26 -- Rich young ruler). F. Will you see His intolerance? (Mat 23:15). G. Will you see His forgiveness? (Jn 8). H. Will you see His directness? (Jn 8:44). I. Will you see His joy? (Lk 15:7). J. Will you see His sorrow? (Mt 27:46). III. WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH JESUS? *** The Jews are asked what they want to do with Jesus *** (Mat 27:20-23) But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. {21} The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. {22} Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. {23} And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. A. Will you walk with Him? (1 Jn 1:7-9). B. Will you love Him? (Jn 14:15; Mt 22:37-38). C. Will you accept His life? (Jn 10:10; Jn 5:25). D. Will you be risen with Christ? (Col 3:1). E. Will you tell others about Him? (Jn 4:29). F. Will you let Him be your example? (Rom 8:29; 1 Pet 2:21). G. Will you follow Jesus? (Mt 11:28-30). H. Will you die with Him? (Gal 2:20; Rom 6:3-4). I. Will you obey Him? (Heb 5:8). J. Will you live eternally with Him? (Phil 1:21-23). Conclusion I. Is Jesus the most significant person in your life? A. He wants to be! II. Will you put Jesus on in baptism? A.
